More People Carrying - More Reasons to Carry

A topic often discussed in our Concealed Handgun License Courses is the reason people decide they want to carry a handgun. Among the concerns we've heard expressed recently is the increasing number of Flash Mob incidents. It doesn't take much online research to learn that what's being reported in the national news is just the tip of the iceberg. Increasing frustration on the part of American youth who are unable to find jobs, the almost universal use of social media and discouragement about the economy in general seems to indicate we're in for more of this type of violence.

Although violent crime is reported to be down in many parts of the country where concealed carry licenses are up, crime in general is increasing. In fact, burglaries in Dallas-Fort Worth and surrounding communities have increased so much the police aren't able respond to many reports. Instead, they take the crime report over the phone. And 911? The horror stories about how long it takes police to respond, even to an armed robbery, continue to abound.

Please, if you are one who has been thinking about taking the Concealed Handgun License class, but have put it off for any of a number of reasons, don't keep putting it off. If you're apprehensive about the class, don't be. Although carrying a gun is serious business, our training is done in a relaxed, comfortable environment. There is no intimidation no matter what level (or lack of) experience you have. Our classes are small and our instructors are friendly and helpful. If you have taken the class, but aren't carrying . . . we hope that's not a decision you regret someday. Remember what we discussed in class. Your gun is your safety net. Don't leave home without it.

FNX-40

Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal, known here in the US as FN Herstal, or sometimes just FN, has been making firearms for the U.S. military and police for a long time. The company, headquartered in Belgium, has U.S. manufacturing in South Carolina. FN Herstal is the parent company of U.S. Repeating Arms Company (Winchester) and Browning Arms Company. They make machineguns and rifles for the U.S. military as well as armed forces around the world. FN is the manufacturer of the Browning Hi-Power automatic pistol.

The pistols that are the subject of this short article are of a much different design. Here at the Texas Gun Pros we got our first one, an FNP-40 through a special program offered to NRA instructors. Although we were told they only had black in stock, when the gun arrived, it was in earth tones. It came with 3 10 round magazines, but the 14 round mags we bought for it fit fine. Naturally, we took it apart to see what was inside. It was immediately obvious the FN was made with the same type of workmanship and quality of materials as the Sig Sauer pistols in our arsenal, yet they don't cost as much as a Sig. The 40 fit well in the hand. As with most 40 calibers, there is a bit of recoil but it is certainly not something that cannot be managed. Through several hundred rounds using a variety of ammo types, there have been no malfunctions with the first pistol.

Somehow, Jerry ended up with it. Afte handling a FNP 9mm belonging to a sudent, David decided he really liked the grip, as well as the ambidextrous decocker, safety and slide lock, espeially the grip. That particular 9 mm had a checkered grip that really felt good to hold. David wound up getting an FNX-40 with the checkered grip. Comparing the FNP and FNX, there are some differences, but either pistol would serve well as a concealed carry firerarm.

We picked up some 9mm FNPs recently for resale. Our hearts won't be broken if nobody buys them. Really nice firearms to consider if you're still shopping for a good defensive handgun. For more details visit the FNH USA website.
