Free Gun Cleaning Classes

In response to numerous requests for help in learning to properly clean a firearm, we're now holding free gun-cleaning classes the first Tuesday night of each month. There is no cost, but please register online at TexasGunPros.com to insure we have the necessary work area and cleaning materials set up.

Reloading Classes

Interested in learning to reload handgun or rifle cartridges? We're now holding a couple of reloading classes a month usually on Thursday nights. There is some classroom work in preparation, but this is primarily a hands-on class. You'll learn about the minimum equipment you need to get started, plus the procedures for safe reloading of your own ammunition at about 1/3 the cost of factory ammo.

Recent Texas Gun Legislation

Governor Perry signed into law three bills passed by the Texas Legislature that are of concern to Texas handgun owners:

  1. The Employer Parking Lot Bill which goes into effect September 1, 2011 and which recognizes CHL holders right to keep a firearm in their personal car in their employer's parking lot. Unfortunately, the law as written does not appear to protect the rights of all legal handgun owners, just those who have a CHL. There are some exceptions:
    • Where a firearm is not allowed by State or Federal law
    • If the vehicle is owned or leased by the employer
    • Where the employer is a school district, charter school or private school
    • Where possession is prohibited by an oil, gas or mineral lease
    • In a secured area of an oil or gas refinery or a manufacturer of chemicals or explosives
  2. House Bill 2560 is now law, effective immediately, and prevents the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services from prohibiting CHL holders from transporting foster children in a motor vehicle where a handgun is kept in the CHL holder's possession.
  3. House Bill 423 became law and is effective immediately, therefore, an urban or rural transportation district will not be allowed to make safety regulations effecting CHL holders.
  4. House Bill 25 will now allow anyone who can lawfully possess a handgun to have one on a watercraft under the same conditions as handguns are allowed in motor vehicles.

Featured Handgun of the Month

Taurus 24/7 Pro

Those of you who have been in our classes know the Texas Gun Pros are fans of Taurus firearms. Poke around our trucks, gun safes or range bags and you'll find an assortment of Taurus revolvers and semi-automatics. That's one reason we like them. They are so reasonably priced you can own more than one!

One of our all time favorites is the Taurus 24/7. They are fine firearms in 9mm, 40 S&W or 45 ACP. You can get a full-size gun or a compact. Regardless of which caliber or frame you choose, you'll get a lot of handgun for your money.

Taurus pistols have more safeties than most competitors. Not only do they have the Taurus Locking system that renders the gun inoperable when locked, but they have both internal and external safeties, as well as a decocker, loaded chamber indicator and Taurus' patented double-strike capability. Have a misfire? Just pull the trigger again without having to rack the slide.

One thing we really like about them is the price. Academy Sports has great prices on them all the time. Cheaper Than Dirt periodically runs a sale, and online retailers sell them quite reasonably.

Visit the Taurus USA website for more information on these fine pistols.
