The Gun-Buying Frenzy Continues

Many of you who have been trying to buy firearms lately have discovered, as we have, that many of the popular brands and models simply aren't available. Even if you happend to find what you're looking for on an online auction, chances are it "just sold" and there is no prediction of when that particular gun will be in stock.

We work with three different wholesalers and we've found the story to be pretty much the same with all of them. With some small exceptions, the Rugers, Smith & Wesson, Berettas and other popular brands are showing goose eggs in the quantity available. Why is this? Well statistically gun-buying has been at an all time high since December. It appears folks are concerned about a combination of things: the upcoming elections, financial instability, unemployment and the rising crime rates among them. Even the shelves at Academy Sports are bare.

We've currently got sources for some of our favorites: Smith and Wesson M&Ps in 9mm and 40 S&W, Sig SP2022s, Beretta PX-4s are among the ones we can get now, still at reasonable prices. We can get the 800 Serice Taurus pistols in 9mm, 40 and 45, as well.

Training is Up, Too

Guys bought their wives or girlfriends tuition to CHL classes for Christmas and Valentines. Girls bought their guys the same gift. We're seeing more couples, more single women and more first-time shooters in our classes every week. There is no sign this is going to taper off soon. What a great time to be in the gun-training business!

Bring your handgun, rifle or shotgun along with its owner's manual if you have one, and come prepared to learn and enjoy the company of other gun owners. Featured Gun This Month - Sig Sauer SP2022

This outstanding Sig Sauer pistol continues to be readily available in both 9mm and 40 S&W at just under or around $400. What can we say? It's a Sig, with all of the Sig quality and engineering that has made this brand a favorite of military, law enforcement and civilians worldwide.

When we first saw SP2022s on sale at Cheaper Than Dirt a couple years ago, they were $499 with night sights. We each bought one. David's is a 9mm and is his "truck" gun, that is also often used as a loaner in our CHL classes. Jerry has a 40 mm version he uses for home protection. Even though we each have Sig P226s, we consider the quality comparative quality on the SP2022s excellent, especially considering the price differential. The big difference as far as we can tell is thate P226 is all metal and the SP2022 has a polymer frame. You will not notice the difference when shooting this gun.
