Gun Ownership

By: David Freeman

It's In Our DNA!

In his book Wild at Heart, Discovering the Secret of a Man's Soul author John Eldredge discusses the inherit fascination boys have with guns as follows:

Capes and swords, camouflage, bandannas and six-shooters--these are the uniforms of boyhood. Little boys yearn to know they are powerful, they are dangerous, they are someone to be reckoned with. How many parents have tried in vain to prevent little Timmy from playing with guns? Give it up. If you do not supply a boy with weapons, he will make them from whatever materials are at hand. My boys chew their graham crackers into the shape of hand guns at the breakfast table. Every stick or fallen branch is a spear, or better, a bazooka. Despite what many modern educators would say, this is not a psychological disturbance brought on by violent televison or a chemical imbalance. Aggression is part of the masculine design; we are hardwired for it. If we believe that man is made in the image of God, then we would do well to remember that "the LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name." (Exodus 15:3)

Yes, it's true that many men have not outgrown childhood. But many more take seriously the role of protector and defender ... of their families ... of the helpless ... and therefore familiarize themselves with the tools and techniques necessary to defend those they love.

In today's society, it is unfortunate that many men have abandoned their roles as protectors and defenders of their wives and children. More and more we see women taking on that role, becoming comfortable with and proficient with the means to protect themselves and their children. More often than not, the preferred defensive weapon is a firearm. That's what this site is about—the safe and proficient use of firearms.

Gun Safety Rules To Know

NRA LogoThese are the basic rules of gun safety as promoted by the National Rifle Association:

  1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
  2. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
  3. ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

It's amazing how simple these three little rules are and how easy it is to prevent accidents by following them at all times.
