What Makes Us Different from Other Instructors?

For one thing, we're not former cops or drill instructors. Though Jerry and David both proudly served in the military (Jerry manned nuclear missle silos during the Cold War [Air Force] and David flew medical evacuation helicopters in Vietnam [Army]), we don't approach firearm use from a law enforcement or military perspective. We are proudly dedicated to teaching civilians to be comfortable owning, carrying and shooting firearms, both for defense and sporting purposes.

The second thing that sets us apart is we're professional instructors. We're both former flight instructors. We've both taught on a variety of subject matters in the college and business world and are well-versed in instructional techniques that will help you learn regardless of your current level of comfort around firearms.

We teach in a relaxed, non-intimidating manner and do our best to avoid jargon and acronyms. If we slip up in that effort, feel free to stop us and ask for clarification.

Finally, we firmly believe in your right to own and bear arms and take a great deal of satisfaction in doing our part to help you enjoy this privilege safely and effectively.

Jerry's main focus is on the professional/protection/safety side of the sport and the protection of people’s rights. "Although many people before becoming Concealed Handgun Licenses feel like they would never carry a gun, they fall into a new feeling of security once they do. The feeling of protection being always at your side gives you, believe it or not, a passive feeling. You have less feelings of being a possible 'Victim' or of being 'Hung out to Dry' if and when a confrontation takes place. With that passive feeling you actually will do just about anything to not use force and will retreat. But knowing that when an incident happens, like road rage where a person might stop you in the middle of traffic, get out of their car and head your way to fight you, that you have protection, really puts you at ease. That is where this peaceful/very passive emotion stems from."

Teaching people the right way is his goal. Providing the knowledge, skills and attitude to be a safe shooter and a protector of your family is his passion. Jerry has owned and operated many companies, is a professional pilot, USAF Veteran, an instructor for over 20 years (including flight instruction and a college teacher), has degrees in business, finance, computers and electronics and many professional firearm and instructor ratings.

David began his lifelong involvement in shooting sports when his dad presented him with a single shot 410 shotgun at the age of 7 and began to teach him to hunt squirrels. He grew up shooting .22 rifles and pistols and hunting with a variety of firearms.

He began earning NRA ratings at a Boy Scout camp in Mississippi at the age of 11 and participated in shooting and hunting sports throughout his early years. Then he moved to the city, started raising a family and life took over.

As a web developer, David was responsible for developing the initial CheaperThanDirt.com website. There he renewed his interest in firearms and began taking his sons hunting.

In response to a growing concern about their personal and family safety in an uncertain world, David, his wife and his youngest son obtained their Texas Concealed Handgun Licenses and began searching for the perfect firearm to carry for personal protection. A natural teacher, David decided that what he was learning he wanted to teach others. He continues to expand his skills and knowledge in the areas related to firearms safety and proficiencey and eagerly shares his passion along these lines with others.
